Celebrating 85 years

A joint 50th, 18th and 17th celebration, this Festival in a Box event took place on a stunning farm on the outskirts of Bath, with jaw dropping views across the valley into the Roman city of Bath.

The Brief

With a group of a few hundred family and friends the brief for this event was a festival style event to focus on good food, lots of dancing and a huge amount of celebrating in a magical setting.

Guests arrived from 5pm to set up tents in the camping field and then make their way to the upper lawn for Prosecco and elderflower cocktails, games of boules and musical entertainment in the form of the wonderfully eccentric Hot Potato Syncopators. We set up fairground style games such as a coconut shy and giant jenga to add to the quintessentially British feel.

From 7 o’clock the arena was officially opened and guests flooded the field to enjoy the deliciousness of a Farmer’s Fayre Hog Roast, hot and sweet crepes from La Bonne Crepe and refreshing cocktails.

We had our friends over at Clinkers bring along the beautiful Prairie Rose – an airstream cocktail bar that kept us all well oiled throughout the evening.

Mini festival with tipi

Banqueting style tables, and cosy benches round fire bowls were laid out for relaxed and fuss free dining. Guests could relax and chat over the yummy food.

The Photo Booth – old frames and a large box of fancy dress!

A brilliant covers band got everyone up and dancing before it was time to reveal the cakes and sing Happy Birthday!

Not one – but four incredible cakes by BathBabyCakes, including one simply divine salted caramel and white chocolate burger cake!

In true Festival in a Box style, we had more than a few tricks up our sleeve come dark…

A secret bar hidden in the woods, that opened once the sun had set. We had so much fun creating the buzz around this and inviting guests to find the hidden bar in amongst the oversized lampshades and chill out hammocks.

The bar, set inside a beautifully painted beach hut a crumpled sign in the window announced the price – £500 a shot…in monopoly money that is!

Our hosts were provided with hundreds of thousands to treat their guests to flavoured vodka shots throughout the evening.

Sadly there are no images of these as they were totally and utterly secret…shhh!

In addition to the secret beach hut bar in the woods, a guitar welding musician serenaded the festival goers with all of the classics for a good old singalong around the campfire. This went down a treat – I’m sure they could hear ‘Let it Be’ from across the valley!

In the early hours of the morning there were whispers around the festival that the beach hut bar was a dummy…and there was a second, even more elusive bar to be found somewhere on site.

This time guests had to find it by stumbling through a Narnia – style backless wardrobe, surrounded by coats and thrown into darkness, guests were welcomed with a giant lit up vodka luge when they reached the other side.
